Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon hosted the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a pair of non-conference volleyball games on Sunday. Unfortunately for the host Hornets, the Owls came away with victories in both contests by identical 3-0 margins. UMaine-Presque Isle improved to 4-2 on the season, while Lyndon remained winless at 0-5.
Match 1 - UMaine-Presque Isle 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-11)
The Owls scored the first five points of the match and never looked back, as UMPI took control at the start of each set. Faith Graham paced the Owls with seven kills and Alexis Engel recorded six kills and notched a match high 12 digs. Setter Rylie Kolkow was credited with 18 assists.
Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) had three kills for Lyndon. Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) and Hannah Badterscher (Irasburg, VT) added two kills apiece and Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) picked up five assists. Morris and Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) each tallied five digs.
Match 2 - UMaine-Presque Isle 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-12)
Lyndon proved to be more competitive in the nightcap. The Hornets and the Owls battled back and forth early on in the first set. With the score tied at 13-13, UMPI ran off six straight points and cruised to the set victory.
After the Owls scored the first five points of the second set, the Hornets battled back to within 10-8, only to see UMPI go on another five-point run to seize control of the set. The third set followed a similar pattern, with Lyndon within one at 7-6 before UMPI ran off six straight points to take control of the set and close out the match.
Graham had a big match with 11 kills to again pace UMPI. Kolkow set the table with 20 assists and Kylee Blazick led with 12 digs.
Mack and Morris each had two kills for Lyndon. Gonzalez finished with four assists and Anderson had a team best nine digs.
Lyndon will return to action next Sunday, when they host Bay Path University at 11:00 am.
