Canton, NY - Playing in a downpour most of Wednesday afternoon, the Vermont State University Lyndon women's lacrosse team couldn't find an answer for the elements or the State University of New York at Canton. The Roos scored eight times in the first quarter and rolled to a 20-1 North Atlantic Conference victory over the Hornets. Canton evened their overall record at 4-4 in their conference opener, while Lyndon remained winless in four outings, including two NAC matchups.
Samantha Dayter had three goals and four assists to pace the Roos. Morgan Montgomery also posted a hat trick with an assist, while Maddy Caron scored two goals and added four assists. 14 different Roos scored in the game.
Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) converted a free position shot as time expired for the only Lyndon goal. Mack had two of the three Hornet shots on goal, with Alexis Leroy (Dunedin, FL) getting credit for the other.
Olivia Scott and Erin Anderson each played a half in goal for the Roos, with each credited with one save. Bridget Denio (Waterford, VT) and Alyssa Gerrish (Washington, VT) each played a half for the Hornets. Denio stopped six of 20 shots on goal in the opening half, while Gerrish stopped three of nine after intermission.
Canton controlled play throughout, outshooting Lyndon, 47-4, and holding a 31-8 advantage on ground balls and an 18-5 advantage on draw controls. Lyndon turned the ball over 28 times to 19 for Canton.
Lyndon will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Thomas College for a NAC matchup. That game, which was originally scheduled to be played on March 23rd, will start at 4:00 pm.
