Husson downs Hornet women's lacrosse despite another hat trick from Webster

Lyndonville, VT - Husson University scored five goals in the first five minutes of Sunday's North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse game at Vermotn State University Lyndon.  The Eagles cruised to a 20-4 victory over the Hornets to improve to 4-7 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.  Lyndon remained winless in nine games, including six NAC affairs.

Jordyn Lengle's man-up goal less than a minute into the game got Husson going.  Gracie Gardner followed with an unassisted score less than a minute later.  Sophia Gomez, Laela Martinez, and Natalie Whitten followed with goals in quick succession, and the Eagles had a five-goal advantage.

Lyndon got on the board at the 9:06 mark of the first quarter when Riley Webster (Upton, MA) found Maachah Krull (Woodsville, NH) in stride with a long pass and Krull fired a shot past Husson goalie Lacey Scanlon.  Webster then controlled the ensuing draw and went to the goal and scored, cutting the Husson lead to 5-2.

Husson halted the Lyndon momentum when Madison lower scored off of an assist from Gardner at the 6:30 mark.  The Eagles added three goals in the final two minutes of the quarter, one from Maddy Benoit and two from Averi Baker, to extend their lead to 9-2 at the end of one.

The pace slowed a bit in the second quarter.  Azabell Assaf scored a man-down goal at the 12:13 mark, then Benoit followed with an unassisted tally just under four minutes later.  Baker's third goal of the half, a free position shot with 3:37 to go in the quarter, sent the Eagles into halftime with a 12=2 lead.

Webster found the net for a man-down goal just over a minute into the third quarter, but Husson's Dylan Veits won control on the draw that followed and went right to goal to score 15 seconds later.  The Eagles built their lead to 14-3 just over a minute after that when Sami Orest scored off of an assist from Benoit.

Webster notched her third goal of the game, and her second hat trick in two days, when she took a pass from Krull and converted.  Webster now has 11 goals on the season, the most for a Hornet since Felisha Olmsted (St. Johnsbury, VT) scored 14 times in 2019.

Riley Meynard's man up goal gave the Eagles a 15-4 lead after three quarters.  Husson added five goals in the final quarter to account for the final score.

Baker finished with four goals and two assists to lead Husson.  Benoit added three goals and three assists.  Gardner, Lower, and Maynard each scored twice,  Benoit and Jordyn Lengle each recorded six ground balls while Baker and Assaf caused four turnovers and Veits came up with eight draw controls.

Victoria Fitih (Madison, TN) and Bridget Denio (Waterford, VT) each had five ground balls for Lyndon.  Fitih and Briona Graham (Port Arthur, TX)caused three turnovers apiece and Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) was credited with eight draw controls.

Scanlon went the distance in goal for Husson, earnign the win while making a pair of saves.  Alyssa Gerrish (Washington, VT) started in goal for the Hornets and took the loss before being relieved by Denio at the start of the second quarter.  Denio made ten saves over three quarters of work.
