Lyndonville, VT - Playing shorthanded the entire game, the Vermont State University Lyndon women's lacrosse team was unable to keep up with the State University of New York at Morrisville on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Mustangs scored early and often, cruising to a 30-2 North Atlantic Conference victory over the Hornets. Morrisville improved to 7-8 on the season and 5-2 in NAC play. Lyndon finishes its season at 0-10 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
Alana McDonald had a huge game for the Mustangs, racking up ten goals and three assists. Maddie Burns added six goals and five assists and Alexa Ringgold chipped in with five goals and five assists. Anyssia Ingersoll was credited with seven ground balls and 11 draw controls while Ringgold recorded four caused turnovers.
Riley Webster (Upton, MA) and Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) scored the two Lyndon goals. Webster added four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) notched a team best five draw controls.
Rebecca Thomas and Aniyah Smith each played a half in goal for Morrisville. Each allowed one goal, with Smith making two saves and Thomas getting credit for the win. Bridget Denio (Waterford, VT) went the entire game in goal for Lyndon, making nine saves.
Today's game was the final one of the season for the Hornets. Lyndon does not have a senior on the roster. The Hornets will look for the returnees to form the nucleus of next year's team and be joined by a talented recruiting class.
