Hornet women's lacrosse can't keep up with SUNY Poly in NAC opener

Utica, NY - SUNY Polytechnic Institute scored six unanswered goals in the first eight minutes of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse game with Vermont State University Lyndon.  The Wildcats never looked back, rolling to an 18-2 victory over the Hornets in the conference opener for both teams.  SUNY Poly improved to 3-4 on the season while Lyndon fell to 0-3.

Kaitlin Kopcza paced the Wildcats with six goals, four assists, seven ground balls, and five caused turnovers, all team highs.  Micheala Johnson added four goals and six ground balls.  Madyn LaFleur and Katelynn Truax chipped in with three goals apiece and Rylie Fischer recorded 11 draw controls.

Riley Webster (Upton, MA) scored one of Lyndon's goals and assisted on the other.  Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) scored the other Hornet goal.  Abigail Stacy (East Barre, VT) had a team best five ground balls while Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) tallied four ground balls, five caused turnovers, and eight draw controls.

Jayden Brown went the distance in goal for SUNY Poly, making seven saves to earn the win.  Alyssa Gerrish (Washington, VT) started in goal for Lyndon.  She allowed 15 goals and made six saves before giving way to Bridget Denio, who made one stop.

The Wildcats outshot the Hornets, 37-10, and had a 41-31 advantage in ground balls.  SUNY Poly successfully cleared the ball 11 of 14 times, while Lyndon was only successful on eight of 27 clears.

Lyndon will travel to SUNY Canton on Wednesday afternoon for a 4:00 pm NAC matchup.
