Northfield, VT - Norwich University swept all nine matches against Vermont State University Lyndon to come away with a win in Tuesday's non-conference men's tennis matchup. The Cadets evened their record at 2-2 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 0-2.
Norwich took control of the match by taking all three doubles contests. Terrance Bayly-Henshaw and Assumopta Nandawula downed Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) and David Gratton (Newport, VT) at first doubles and Sophia Sevi and Ethan Teluk defeated Gilbert Flores (Winstead, CT) and James Salvas (Morrisville, VT) at third doubles, both by 8-3 scores. Matthias Tchantourisze and Sean Horgan were 8-0 winners over Joseph Patrick Osborn (Hanover, NH) and Stephen Wutzl (Brookfield, CT) at second doubles.
The Cadets then took all six singles flights to close out the match. The second singles contest was the most competitive of the day. After Nandawula and Gratton split the first two sets, Nandawula prevailed, 10-5, in the third set tiebreaker. Norwich took each of the other five flights in straight sets.
The Hornets will open up North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host the State University of New York at Delhi. The match will take place at the Topnotch Tennis Academy in Stowe, VT, and will begin at 4:00 pm.
