Castine, ME - Maine Maritime Academy scored the first seven goals and never looked back in Saturday's non-conference women's lacrosse game against Vermont State University Lyndon. The Mariners rolled to an 18-2 victory and improved to 2-3 on the season. The Hornets fell to 0-2.
Lillian Diversi, Hazel Stoddard, and Rebecca Caron accounted for all of the Maine Maritime scoring. Diversi led the way with seven goals. Stoddard added six goals and Caron chipped in with five. Bella Scolaro and Frances Spangler recorded four assists each.
Mary Grace Weissauer (Milford, CT) and Riley Webster (Upton, MA) scored the two Lyndon goals. Webster picked up an assist on Weissauer's tally.
Ella Bowles played the first half in goal for the Mariners and picked up the win, making one save along the way. Kelsey Melton came on in the second half and didn't face a shot on goal. Alyssa Gerrish (Washington, VT) went the distance in goal for Lyndon and made eight saves.
Maine Maritime outshot Lyndon, 40-4, and picked up 27 ground balls to nine for the Hornets. The Mariners also had an 18-5 advantage in draw controls and converted all five of their free position shots.
The Hornets will open North Atlantic Conference play next Saturday when they travel to Thomas College for a 3:30 pm start.
