North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Vermont State University Lyndon softball team opened up play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with a pair of exhibition games against National Junior College Athletic Association colleges on Wednesday. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they came up on the short end of both contests, falling to Wake Technical Community College and the University of South Carolina Union.
Game 1 - Wake Tech 3, VTSU Lyndon 2
Wake Tech's Leah Correll outdueled Lyndon's Victoria Valentine (East Burke, VT) to carry wake Tech to the win. Each pitcher scattered six hits. After Lyndon tied the game at 2-2 with an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles' Marie Whelen singled and came around to score the winning run in the home fifth.
Game 2 - USC Union 9, VTSU Lyndon 3
The Bantams jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings and cruised to the win. Amber Everett (Morrisville, VT) drove in a pair of runs for the Hornets.
Lyndon plays two more games at the Classic on Thursday. They start the day with a 10:00 am contest against Shawnee University. The Hornets will follow that with a 2:00 pm exhibition game against Brunswick Community College.
