Chicopee, MA - The Vermont State University women's baskeball team cut a 14-point Elms College halftime lead to one at the end of three quarters of Thursday's non-conference game. The Hornets were unable to get over the hump, however, as the host Blazers pulled away in the final period to came away with a 71-57 victory. Elms improved to 3-5 on the season, while Lyndon fell to 2-5.
Graham Piper topped five Elms players in double figures, finishing with 24 points. Jade Lewis and Mary Turco added 11 points apiece and Rahmia Johnston chipped in with ten points. Jenny Gorski also scored ten points and pulled down a game high 14 rebounds.
Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) led Lyndon with 21 points. Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) and Riley Webster (Upton, MA) also reached double figures with ten points apiece. Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) also pulled down seven rebounds.
Lyndon will open North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Vermont State University Johnson. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
