Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon volleyball team wrapped up its 2024 season with a pair of matches against Vermont State University Johnson on Saturday. Unfortunately for the home team, the visiting Badgers came away with a pair of 3-0 victories, sweeping the North Atlantic Conference opener and the non-conference nightcap. Johnson improves to 8-14 overall and 3-3 in NAC play, while Lyndon finishes the season 0-20 and 0-6 in conference.
Match 1 - VTSU Johnson 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-11)
Aubrey Villa paced the Johnson attack with 11 kills and added 14 digs. Setter Delanye Gross recorded 25 assists and Tameka Husbands notched 16 digs. Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) had three kills and 13 digs for Lyndon. Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) had five assists and Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) notched a match high 20 digs.
Match 2 - VTSU Johnson 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9)
Husbands had a big match for the Badgers, posting 12 kills and 15 digs. Gross finished with 23 assists and Jennifer Longway added 16 digs. Morris, Hannah Badertscher (Irasburg, VT), and Alexis Coutermarsh (Springfield, VT) notched two kills each for Lyndon. Gonzalez had four assists and Anderson finished with 15 digs.
Prior to Saturday's matches, Lyndon honored its senior volleyball players, Morris, Anderson, and Mary Grace Weissauer (Milford, CT). First year Lyndon head coach Paige Daley praised all three ladies and thanked them for their contributions to Lyndon volleyball. The players were accompanied by family and friends, and presented with tokens of appreciation from the underclassmen on the Hornet team.
With the season concluded, Lyndon now turns its attention to building the program in 2025. The three seniors graduate, but Lyndon is expected to return six underclassmen, who should provide a foundation for the 2025 team.
