Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hornet women hang in early but fall to Fisher

Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon and Fisher College played on even terms for the first 28 minutes of Wednesday's non-conference matchup.  The Falcons pulled away in the second half, however, and cruised to a 4-0 victory, their first in three starts this season.  The Hornets are 0-2 on the young season.

Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities in the early minutes of the first half, but Lyndon goalkeeper Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) and her Fisher counterpart, Cefeldalina Molina Lara were up to each challenge.

Fisher finally broke through in the 29th minute when Kelly Wallace took a long ball from Ariana Artavia, got behind the Lyndon defense, and fired a shot past Mack.  Perhaps Lyndon's best scoring opportunity came in the 39th minute, when Paige Currier (West Glover, VT) broke in on Molina Lara and fired.  Molina Lara came up with the save, however, and Fisher took the 1-0 advantage into intermission.

Lyndon was called for a foul in the box in the 50th minute, and Wallace converted the ensuing penalty kick to make it 2-0, Falcons.  Artavia scored in the 65th minute to make it a three-goal game.  Currier then had a great chance to pull Lyndon closer, but her shot in the 67th minute was off the crossbar.  Riann Fortin's (Newport, VT) rebound shot was off the mark.  Wallace then completed her hat trick in the 74th minute to close out the scoring.

Fisher outshot Lyndon, 16-10, for the match.  Mack made six saves in the Hornet goal, while Molina Lara recorded five saves to complete the clean sheet.

The Hornets will open North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host NAC newcomer Lesley University at noon.
