Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon volleyball team showed signs of progress over their two matches on the second day of the annual Vermont Volleyball Classic. It wasn't enough to get the Hornets into the win column, however, as both Norwich University and Vermont State University Johnson came away with 3-0 victories, leaving Lyndon winless in three outings on the season. Johnson ended the weekend at 2-1, while Norwich went 1-2. Vermont State University Castleton swept all three of their matches ver the two-day event.
Norwich 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-12, 25-5, 25-17)
Katie Finn had seven kills to lead Norwich to the win. Gina Caraccio dished ten assists, while Sarah DeBot recorded 18 digs. Leilani Medina (Laredo, TX) leed Lyndon with three kills, while Charlotte Morris (Middletown, DE) had four assists and Audrey Tembreull (Vergennes, VT) had eight digs.
VTSU Johnson 3, VTSU Lyndon 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22)
The Hornets scored their most points of the season so far and nearly pulled off the win in the third set before the Badgers closed things out. Avianna Garcia led Johnson with eight kills. Sasha Khomutetsky finished with18 assists and eight digs and Morgan Eagleson added 11 digs. Medina again paced the Hornets with three kills. Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) tallied three assists and Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) came up with 12 digs.
The Hornets will return to action next Saturday when they host the University of Southern Maine. The openign serve in Stannard Gymnasium is set for noon.
