Castleton, VT - In a matchup of two Vermont State University women's tennis teams both seeking their first win, it was Vermont State Castleton that emerged with a 9-0 victory over Vermont State Lyndon. The Spartans earned their first win in five matches, while the Hornets remained winless in six outings.
The Spartans started fast by picking up wins in all three doubles contests. In the first flight, Castleton's Stella Forte and Madelyn Nonni picked up an 8-3 win over Renee Chaples (Three Rivers, MA) and Maachah Krull (Woodsville, NH). Ginny Trevisan and Olivia Rutkowski of Castleton were 8-1 winners over Emily Sklodosky (Andover, CT) and Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT). The Spartans won the third flight by retirement.
Castleton also had their way in the six singles matchups. In the most competitive contest, Nonni was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Frull at number two. The Hornets only managed to win a total of three games in the other five flights.
Lyndon will return home on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Vermont State University Johnson in a North Atlantic Conference match. The Hornets will be looking to avenge a 6-3 Badger victory in Saturday's non-conference match. Play will begin with doubles at 4:00 pm.
