Presque Isle, ME - For the second day in a row, Northern Vermotn University-Lyndon got the bats going and compelted a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The Hornets finish the season with an overall record of 12-23, and a NAC mark of 8-8. The Owls wind up 2-23 on the season and 1-15 in conference.
Game 1 - NVU-Lyndon 14, UMaine-Presque Isle 5
Lyndon put runs on the board in each of the first four innings in cruising to the victory. Matt Doherty (Gardner, MA) had a home run, a single, three runs batted in, and two runs scored to pace the Hornets. TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) and Kearson Grisham (Choctaw, MS) both doubled and scored three runs. Dale Ostermann (Milford, DE) drove in a run and scored twice.
Timothy Burns was the big bat in the game for UMPI. He had three hits, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Garrett Chadwick had a single and a double and scored twice.
Hornet starter Ryan Alt (Poultney, VT) went six innings to pick up the win. He allowed two runs, one earned, and six hits, striking out two without walking a batter. UMPI starter Jordan Young took the loss.
Game 2 - NVU-Lyndon 10, UMaine-Presque Isle 6
The Hornets pounded out ten more hits in the nightcap. Steven Friscia (Smithtown, NY) was Lyndon's hitting star with a two-run double and a three-run home run. Alberto Bustamante (Los Angeles, CA)was three for four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Will Perkins (Holtwood, PA) had two hits in three at bats.
Burns again homered for the Owls. Chadwick, Joey Blake, and Ricky Goupille each had two hits.
Ostermann went six innings plus for the Hornets. He got the win and allowed four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Payton Jones started for the Owls and took the loss.
The Hornets will graduate seniors Santaw, Friscia, and Matt Brault (Milton, VT) but are expected to have a deep group of returnees to form the nucleus of the 2024 team.
