Lyndonville, VT - After playing their first seven games on the road, the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team opened their home season with a North Atlantic Conference game against the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets produced their highest scoring output of the season but it wasn't nearly enough, as the Wildcats came away with a 21-5 victory. SUNY Poly improved to 3-8 on the season and evened their NAC record at 2-2. Lyndon remains winless in ten starts, including three conference games.
Molly Burdick and Kaitlin Kopcza both had big games in leading teh Wildcats. Burdick finished with seven goals and three assists and Kopcza added six goals and four assists. Rylie Fischer chipped in with three goals. Burdick recorded six ground balls while Kopcza had a game high ten draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Katie Cushing (St. Johnsbury, VT) had two goals apiece for Lyndon. Cushing added an assist and four ground balls. Alexis Leroy (St. Petersburg, FL) scored Lyndon's other goal. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) had an assist and a team best seven draw controls.
Jayden Brown went the distance in goal for the Wildcats to earn the win, making three saves in the process. Hornet goalie Rachel Palladino (Manlius, NY) had nine saves in taking the loss.
The Hornets return to action next Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Maine at Farmington in another NAC matchup. Game time is 1:00 pm.
