Bangor, ME - With only eight players in the lineup, the Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team faced an uphill challenge at Husson University on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets came up on the short end of a 17-1 score against the Eagles, as Husson improved to 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference play. Lyndon remains winless in seven starts, including two conference affairs.
Husson jumped out to an 8-0 lead after one quarter, then cruised to the victory. Sophia Gomez led the Eagles with four goals while Averi Baker had three goals and two assists. Madison Lower also scored three times. Devyn Veits recorded seven ground balls, five caused turnovers, and seven draw controls.
Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) scored Lyndon's lone goal, with the assist going to Libby Webb (Wells, ME). Hornet goalie Rachel Palladino (Manlius, NY) led the team with five ground balls. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) led the Hornets with four draw controls.
Palladino and Husson goalie Emma Begin both went the distance in front of the cage. Palladino made ten saves while Begin had three stops.
The Hornets are scheduled to play their long awaited home opener next Saturday afternoon when they host SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Varsity Field. Game time is 12:00 noon.
