Castleton, VT - Castleton University scored six times in the game's first six minutes and never looked back, rolling to a 21-1 victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in Wednesday evening's non-conference women's lacrosse game. The Spartans improved to 3-8 on the season with the win, while the Hornets fell to 0-5.
The Spartans led 13-0 at halftime and were never threatened. Kimberly McCarthy led Castleton with eight goals and two assists. Megan Ward added five goals and an assist. Phoebe Loomis and Madelyn Cote chipped in three goals apiece and Lacey Greenamyre tallied seven assists.
Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) picked up Lyndon's only goal when she converted a free position shot with 6:19 left in the third quarter.
Castleton dominated play, outshooting Lyndon 42-3, holding a 31-17 lead in ground balls, and winning 20 of 28 draws. Spartan goalkeepers Maddie Brasser and Gretel Sherman each played a half without making a save. Hornet goalie Rachel Palladino (Manlius, NY) stopped 12 shots.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday afternoon when they open North Atlantic Conference play with a 3:00 pm game at Maine Maritime Academy.
