Colchester, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon Men's Tennis team fell 7-0 to NCAA Division II St. Michael's College on Wednesday. The loss drops the Hornets to 1-2 on the season while Purple Knights improve to 3-9 on the season.
St. Michael's won the opening point in doubles play as they took all three doubles matches. Josh Wess and Jason Boucher took down the Hornets' Jeffery Blais (Newport, VT) and David Gratton (Newport, VT), 6-0, in first doubles. Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY) and Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) fell to Sergio Barroso, 6-0, in second doubles. Tristian Du Plessis and Simon Lundholm defeated Matthew Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) and James Salvas (Morrisville, VT), 6-0, in third doubles.
St. Michael's took over in singles play as well. Gratton was the only Hornet to not be shut out as he fell to Bassoro, 6-1, 6-0 in fourth singles. Blais, Peer, Webster, Condon, and Salvas all lost, 6-0, 6-0 to their Division II opponents.
Lyndon will hit the courts again on Saturday when they travel to play a doubleheader against conference opponent Thomas College. The first match will be a North Atlantic Conference contest and the second match will be a non-conference affair.
