Stowe, VT - The Northern Vermont University Lyndon men's tennis team defeated their cross state rivals, Northern Vermont University Johnson, 9-0 in their opening match on Saturday.
Lyndon started strong with their doubles lineup, as Jeffrey Blais (Newport, VT) and David Gratton (Newport, VT) teamed up to defeat Anthony Barberi and Rome Watts 8-0 in first doubles. Quinlan Peer (Saranac Lake, NY) and Garrick Webster (Terryville, CT) followed suit with an 8-0 victory over Maleek View and Mo Semega in second doubles. In third doubles, James Salves (Morristown,VT) and Matthew Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) secured the doubles sweep for Lyndon with a 8-3 win over Malik Moore and Raymond Baka.
Lyndon's momentum carried over into the singles matches, as they swept all six matches. Blais cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Barberi in first singles. Peer continued the winning ways in second singles, defeating View 6-1, 6-0. Gratton had a flawless performance in third singles, shutting out Semega 6-0, 6-0. Webster was also dominant in fourth singles, not dropping a game against Moore and winning 6-0, 6-0. Salves defeated Jeremias Fegan 6-0, 6-0 in sixth singles, and Condon defeated Adaince Cheromiah 6-2, 6-1 in fifth singles completing the sweep.
Lyndon will look to continue their winning ways at Castleton University tomorrow at 1:00 pm. Johnson falls to 0-2 on the season.
