Hornet men can't overtake Husson

Bangor, ME - With the game tied and under six minutes remaining, Husson University used a 9-0 run to get past Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 80-71, in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball on Friday evening.  Husson improved to 11-12 overall and 9-3 in NAC play with the win, while Lyndon fell to 6-15 on the season and 3-7 in conference.

After Husson took an early 8-2 lead, Lyndon responded with a 10-2 run of their own, taking their first lead on a Peyton Olsen (Middleburgh, NY) layup.  The Hornets held a 22-20 lead gollowing an Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) three-pointer with 4:21 to go in the opening half.  The Eagles closed the half on a 12-2 run, capped by Jeremy Moronta's basket and free throw two seconds before the halftime buzzer, sending Husson into intermission with a 32-24 lead.

Derek Collin's basket and free throw on the first possession of the second half pushed the Eagle lead to 11.  Lyndon then began to climb back in it, and tied things up at 44-44 following a pair of Olsen free throws with 13:09 to go.  Back to back baskets from Justice Kendall gave Husson the lead back, and the Eagles maintained a slim advantage until Mondwell Bukle (Pyeongtaek, South Korea) drained a three-pointer to pull the Hornets even again at 59-59 with 6:10 left.

Jared Balser's rebound basket would put Husson back in front, then the Eagles would capitalize on a Lyndon turnover and two missed layups on successive possessions to extend their lead to nine at 68-59 with 4:33 remaining.  The Hornets would get no closer than within five points the rest of the game, as the Eagles held on for the win.

Kendall led the Eagles with 17 points and eight assists.  Scott Lewis added 16 points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots, and Moronta chipped in 15 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.  Collin also reached double figures with 11 points.

Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) paced Lyndon with a game high 24 points on 10/16 shooting.  Bukle and Olsen also scored in double figures with 15 and 14 points respectively.
