Castine, ME - Top seed Maine Maritime Academy jumped on fourth seed Northern Vermont University-Lyndon right from the onset of Tuesday evening's North Atlantic Conference women's basketball quarterfinal. The Mariners scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back, rolling to a 100-34 victory. MMA improved to 20-6 on the season. The Mariners will advance to play second seed Husson University, an 87-61 winner over three seed University of Maine at Presque Isle in Friday's second quarterfinal. Lyndon closed the season at 10-15.
The Mariners continued to pull away following the game opening burst. They built a 51-17 lead at intermission, as Lyndon was unable to get anything going all game.
MMA had balanced scoring throughout the lineup, as six Mariners reached double figures. Grace Huntwick led the way with 21 points and Evelyn Eagan was next with 13. Arianna More and Jacquelin Castro added 12 points apiece, while Kali Barber and Sydney Briscoe chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Riann Fortin (Derby, VT) was the only Lyndon player in double figures, as she scored ten points. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) and Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) scored eight points each.
The Hornets concluded their season in the NAC quarterfinals for the second yer in a row. This season also marked the program's fifth consecutive playoff berth.
