Northfield, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon was able to stay within striking distance of Norwich University for most of Saturday's non-conference women's basketball game. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were unable to overtake the Cadets, as Norwich pulled away down the stretch for a 64-47 victory. Norwich evened their record at 2-2 on the season while Lyndon fell to 3-2.
With the game tied at 8-8 midway through the opening quarter, Norwich went on an 8-2 run to take the lead, then never looked back. The Cadets extended their advantage to 16 in the second quarter before Lyndon closed to within single digits, 32-23, at intermission. The closes that Lyndon got in the second half was five points in the third quarter, as Norwich held off the Hornets and pulled away down the stretch.
Holly Brewster had a game high 28 points to lead Norwich. Marin McGinn chipped in with 18 points and Erika Thomas pulled down nine rebounds. Sagre Smith (Colebrook, NH) paced the Hornets with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
The Hornets are off for ten days, until Tuesday, November 28th, when they travel to Plymouth State University for a 5:30 pm non-conference tip-off.
