Plymouth, NH - Plymouth State University defeated Vermont State University Lyndon, 8-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Plymouth improved to 4-6-5 on the season. Lyndon concluded its season winless in 15 outings.
The Panthers took control from the onset. Four different Plymouth players found the net in the game's first 16 minutes to stake the Panthers to an early lead. Lyndon was able to keep Plymouth from inflicting further damage through the middle stages of the game, but the Panthers added four more goals in the final ten minutes to account for the final score.
August Westerholm scored twice for the Panthers. Lucas McCarthy added a goal and a pair of assists and Brayden White chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Plymouth outshot Lyndon, 42-1, and earned 11 corner kicks to two for the Hornets. Lyndon's only scoring opportunity came in the 16th minute when Joseph Patrick Osborn's (Hanover, NH) shot was turned away by Panther goalkeeper Scott Danroth. Danroth and Kole Matta each played a half in the combined shutout. Lyndon keeper Robert McDonald made 13 saves.
The Hornets now turn their attention to restocking the roster in anticipation of the 2024 season.
