Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team pulled away from Thomas College to earn a 68-41 North Atlantic Conference victory on Friday evening. With the win, the Hornets evened their record at 8-8 on the season and moved to 4-2 in NAC play. Meanwhile the Terriers fell to 2-14 overall and 1-6 in conference.
After Lyndon took an early 4-3 lead, Thomas used a quick 7-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage. The Hornets responded with a 9-0 run of their own and regained the lead on an Airez Pimentel (San Leandro, CA) three-pointer. Lyndon held a 13-12 lead after one quarter.
The Hornets were able to maintain a slim advantage in the early minutes of the second quarter. With Lyndon up four with just over two minutes to go until intermission, Riann Fortin's (Derby, VT) layup ignited an 8-0 run to close the half and send the Hornets into the break with a 35-23 lead.
Thomas began to chip away as the third quarter began. A pair of Samantha Fortin jumpers sandwiched around an Elena Alderman basket quickly cut the Hornet lead in half to 35-29. Marisa Schlegel (Nampa, ID) stemmed the tide when she converted a steal into a layup and break the Hornet drought. The Hornets were able to build the advantage back to 12 at the quarter break.
Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT) connected from behind the three-point arc on Lyndon's first possession of the final quarter, pushing the lead out to 15 points. Thomas was never able to threaten from there, as the Hornets pulled away for the final margin.
Pimentel led the Lyndon attack with 17 points. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) recorded a double double with 14 poitns and 14 rebounds and Schlegel also reached double figures with 12 points. Samantha Fortin led Thomas with eight points and seven rebounds.
