Hermon, ME - Husson University swept three women's tennis matches from Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon, all by 9-0 scores. The day's first match was a North Atlantic Conference contest, while the two subsequent matches were non-conference affairs. With today's results, the Eagles remain unbeaten at 8-0 on the season and clinch the NAC regular season title with a 2-0 conference mark. The Hornets are winless in six outings. Today's opener was their first conference match.
Match #1 - Husson 9, NVU-Lyndon 0
The Eagles rolled to three doubles victories without losing more than one game in any of the three contests. In the second singles match, Husson's Julia O'Leary defeated Lyndon's Rebekah Delgado (Jersey City, NJ), 6-1, 6-2. The Eagles won each of the other five flights by 6-0, 6-0 margins.
Match #2 - Husson 9, NVU-Lyndon 0
Husson again started off by comfortably taking all three doubles flights. Second doubles was the most competitive match of the three, with the Eagle duo of Lexi Thompson and Emily Doten defeating Lyndon's Marisa Schlegel (Nampa, ID) and Makayla Phonix (Houston, TX), 8-3. In first singles, Sage Dubey of Husson downed the Hornets' Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT), 6-1, 6-3. Husson only lost one game collectively in taking the other five flights.
Match #3 - Husson 9, NVU-Lyndon 0
Husson again had their way in doubles, only losing a single game between the three flights. In singles play, Phoenix and Husson's Emily Tilton squared off at #4 and had the match of the day. Tilton prevailed in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (10-3). Lyndon was unable to take more than one game in any of the other five flights.
The Hornets will remain in Maine for three more matches at Thomas College on Sunday. Play will begin at 11:00 am with the NAC matchup.
