Hornet women's tennis drops a quartet of matches at Thomas

Waterville, ME - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon and Thomas College played a rare women's tennis quadrupleheader on Sunday.  The host Terriers swept all four matches to improve to 6-5 on the season.  The first match of the day was a North Atlantic Conference matchup, and evened the Terriers' conference mark at 1-1.  The Hornets fell to 0-10 on the season and finish 0-2 in conference.

Match #1 - Thomas 9, NVU-Lyndon 0

The Hornets didn't win more than one game in any of the three doubles matches, or more than two games in any of the six singles flights, as Thomas clinched a NAC playoff berth with a win.

Thomas again dominated doubles play.  However, several singles matches were more competitive.  Makayla Phoenix (Houston, TX) picked up Lyndon's only win of the day with a hard fought 7-6 (7-0), 7-5 decision over Thomas's Ceileidh Harnum at sixth singles.  In the day's tightest matchup, the Terriers' Olivia Teague edged Lyndon's Lexi Foley (Newburyport, MA) with a third set tiebreak win, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-3), at fifth singles.  At second singles, Lauren Smith of Thomas downed Rebekah Delgado (Jersey City, NJ), 6-1, 6-2.  The Hornets didn't win more than one game in a set in any of the other three singles matches.
