Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team took to Varsity Field for the first time this season on Saturday. Playing in a steady rain, the Hornets dropped the North Atlantic Conference game to Maine Maritime Academy, 19-2. The Mariners even their overall record at 5-5, and remain unbeaten in NAC play at 3-0. Lyndon remains winless in six games, including two conference tilts.
Maine Maritime's Hazel Stoddard was the star of the game. She scored the first four goals of the game, and finished the day with nine goals, two assists, and a game high six draw controls. Lilly Cook had two goals and an assist and Olivia Hartman had a goal and two assists. Amber Card recorded a goal, an assist, and five draw controls.
Alyssa Fryman (Lancaster, NH) and Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) each scored for the Hornets. Fryman also led Lyndon with five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Nyah Garner (Birmingham, AL) and Faith Poirier (Portsmouth, NH) were credited with four caused turnovers each.
Charlotte Rose went the full game in goal for Maine Maritime. She picked up the win while making three saves. Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) made seven saves for the Hornets.
Maine Maritime outshot Lyndon, 36-9, and had 15 draw controls to eight for the Hornets. The Mariners committed 22 turnovers and 21 fouls, while the Hornets had 27 giveaways and 15 fouls.
Lyndon's scheduled Sunday game against Husson University has been postponed due to the combination of wet field conditions and anticipated additional rain overnight. The Hornets will play next on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Rivier University for a 4:00 pm start.
