New London, NH - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon traveled to Colby-Sawyer College for their final non-conference games of the season on a snowy Wednesday afternoon. Colby-Sawyer rallied for a 12-6 win in the first game, then the Hornets rebounded for an 8-5 win in the nightcap The Hornets move to 9-23 on the season, while the Chargers are now 8-27.
Game 1 - Colby-Sawyer 12, NVU-Lyndon 6
Lyndon jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings before the hosts rallied. Jake Choiniere was three for four with three runs scored to lead the Chargers. Ian Turpel and Zach Rogers each had two hits and Beiley Camancho drove in four runs. Tyler Murro (Littleton, NH) had a pair of hits for the Hornets. Dylan Wilson (Monroe, CT) tripled and drove in two runs and Skyler Bushey (St. Albans, VT) doubled and scored twice.
Kenneth Spratt, the second of three Colby-Sawyer pitchers, earned the win on the mound, only allowing one hit in three shutout innings. Hornet starter Will Perkins (Holtwood, PA) allowed six runs on four hits and four walks over three innings. Dylan Crump (Falls Village, CT) took the loss after yielding three runs and four hits in two innings of work.
game 2 - NVU-Lyndon 8, Colby-Sawyer 5
The Hornets used a five-run fourth inning to take control of the game. Bushey had a pair of doubles with an RBI and a run scored for Lyndon. Murrow had two hits and two RBIs. EJ Camden (Corona, CA) and Anthony Ness (Silver Springs, NV) also had two hits apiece. Jesse MacGlashing paced Colby-Sawyer with two hits and two RBIs. Cooper O'Brien and Brady Holmes also had two hits for the Chargers.
Matt Brault (Milton, VT) picked up the win for the Hornets, striking out four and allowing two hits in two innings of scoreless relief. He was the third of five Lyndon pitchers. Middle relievers Sean Cavanaugh (Londonderry, NH), Brault, and Alberto Bustamante (Los Anglels, CA) combined to throw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Hornets. Colby-Sawyer starter Kam Lovelette allowed six runs on five hoits with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings and took the loss.
The Hornets will close the regular season this weekend when they host the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a crucial North Atlantic Conference four game series. The weekend will start with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
