Farmington, ME - The University of Maine at Farmington kept Northern Vermont University-Lyndon off the scoreboard until the final minutes, enroute to a 21-1 North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse victory on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers improve to 3-9 on the season and even their NAC record at 3-3. The Hornets remain winless in eight games, including four conference starts.
UMF started fast, with four goals in the game's first three minutes. The Beavers extended their advantage to 13-0 at halftime, and eventually led 21-0, before Lyndon's Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT) took a pass from Katie Cushing (St. Johnsbury, VT) for the Hornets' only goal with 3:13 to go in the game.
Azure Illiano had a big game for UMF, scoring five goals and adding an assist. Kaya Backman and Jade Petrie each had a hat trick with two assists, while Kristina Moody and Emily Stinson scored two goals apiece. Petire had a game high five ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Abby Trefsger recorded nine draw controls. Nyah Garner (Brimingham, AL) and Lexi Leroy (St. Petersburg, FL) each had two ground balls for Lyndon and Cushing tallied five draw controls.
Maddy TenKate and Kate Nowell split goaltending duties for UMF, with each recording a save and TenKate getting credit for the win. Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) went the whole game for the Hornets and made nine saves.
UMF outshot Lyndon, 37-5, and had a 16-10 advantage in draw controls. The Hornets turned the ball over 22 times to 15 for the Beavers. Lyndon struggled to clear the ball, only doing so successfully on six of 15 attempts, while UMF was 13 for 15 on clears.
The Hornets will conclude their road trip to Maine tomorrow when they face Thomas College in another NAC contest. Game time is 1:00 pm.
