Canton, NY - SUNY Canton jumped out to an 8-1 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 19-1 win over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse game. With the win, the Roos improve to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in NAC play. The Hornets remain winless in five outings. Saturday's game was Lyndon's first conference contest.
Casey Pelton and Samantha Dayter each had three goals and two assists to lead Canton. Maddy Caron also had a hat trick and added an assist. Lindsey Wunder had a hat trick as well and Stephanie Thayer had a goal and foour assists for the Roos. Rachel Palladino (Manlius, NY) scored on a free position shot late in the first quarter for Lyndon's only goal of the game.
Olivia Scott started in goal for Canton and picked up the win while making one save in the first half. Madison Leary and Erin Anderson played the third and fourth quarters respectively. Neither was called on to make a save. Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) went the distance in goal for the Hornets. She made 16 saves and topped 100 career saves in the process.
Canton outshot Lyndon, 53-5, and had a 25-11 advantage in ground balls. The Roos controlled 20 of 23 draws and turned the ball over 15 times to 30 for the Hornets.
Lyndon will return to action next Saturday when they host Maine Maritime Academy in a NAC matchup. Game time is set for 12:00 noon on Varsity Field.
