Dudley, MA - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team took the field for the first time since April of 2019 on Tuesday afternoon, as they traveled to Nichols College for a non-conference matchup. Lyndon lost all of the past two seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately for the Hornets, Nichols spoiled their return, cruising to a 19-0 victory. The Bison improve to 2-1 on the season.
Hadley Houghton had a big game to lead Nichols, tallying six goals and an assist. Mackenzie Doran and Elizabeth Luster added three goals apiece while Abigail Pelis and Kayla Currin each chipped in with a pair of goals. Sam Ahaesy recorded a game high five ground balls. Sabrina Dembro started and collected the win while making two first half saves. Keri Tremblay came on in the second half to preserve the shutout.
Lyndon goalie Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) made 15 saves in front of the cage. Katie Cushing (St. Johnsbury, VT) had the Hornets' only two shots on goal.
Nichols outshot Lyndon, 44-3, and had a 33-10 advantage in ground balls. The Hornets turned the ball over 25 times to only seven for the Bison.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to New England College for another non-conference matchup. Game time is 1:00 pm.
