Plymouth, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-7 non-conference game to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Sunday afternoon. The game was played at Plymouth State University's Panther Field. The win was MCLA's first in four games, while Lyndon remains winless in four starts this season.
MCLA took a 6-2 lead after one quarter, then the two teams scored three times apiece in the second stanza, sending the Trailblazers into halftime with a 9-5 advantage. MCLA broke the game open with a six goal run to start the second half, before Lyndon tallied the final two goals of the game.
Julia Graham paced the MCLA attack with six goals and a pair of assists. Sara Tomkiewicz added five goals and an assist, and Summer Nichols scored two goals and assisted on two others. Skyelyn Haynes recorded a game high 11 ground balls and caused eight Hornet turnovers.
Alyssa Fryman (Lancaster, NH) led Lyndon with a career best four goals, the most scored by a Hornet player since Mikayla Hodge (Bradford, VT) found the back of the net four times in the final game of the 2018 season. Isabel Bourgeois (St. Johnsbury, VT), Katie Cushing (St. Johnsbury, VT), and Yasmin Molina (Morristown, NJ) also scored goals for the Hornets. Molina also led Lyndon with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Lori Lester made 11 saves in goal for MCLA and earned the win in the process. Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) also made 11 stops and was tagged with the loss.
MCLA outshot Lyndon, 36-27. The Hornets turned the ball over 19 times to 15 for the Trailblazers.
The Hornets will return to action on Thursday afternoon, when they travel to Norwich University for a 4:00 pm non-conference matchup.
