Nashua, NH - Rivier University jumped out to a 10-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 20-3 men's lacrosse victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Friday evening. Rivier improves to 2-1 on the season, while Lyndon is winless in two starts.
Michael Zapatka had a big game in leading Rivier. He scored six goals and added two assists and a game high nine ground balls. Connor Eck added three goals and an assist for the Raiders. Michael Ference found the net twice while Jeffery Potter, Coby Mercier, and Sawyer Hall all recorded a goal and two assists. Anthony Townsend (Pembroke, MA) scored two goals for Lyndon and Benjamin Cheever (Johnson, VT) picked up the other Hornet goal.
Sawyer Gagnon started in goal for Rivier and earned the win before being relieved by Samuel Tibbits and Ryan Palmer. Aaron Florence (Lutz, FL) went the distance in goal for Lyndon, recording 21 saves in the process.
Rivier outshot Lyndon, 62-17, and held a 33-5 advantage in ground balls. The Raiders also dominated the X, winning 22 of 23 faceoffs. Lyndon committed 21 turnovers to 13 for Rivier.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for another non-conference matchup. Game time is 7:00 pm.
