Hornet men unable to keep up with SUNY Delhi in NAC crossover contest

Lyndonville, VT - SUNY Delhi led wire to wire in posting a 111-73 victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in Monday evening's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game.  With the win the Broncos improve to 17-6 on the season and 9-1 in NAC play.  The Hornets fall to 6-14 overall and 3-7 in conference.

Delhi scored on their first three possessions to jump out to a 6-1 advantage and never looked back.  At the 9:33 mark of the opening half the Broncos' Pablo Quinones converted a basket and a foul to give the visitors a 28-14 lead.  The Hornets rallied briefly, closing to within 32-28 following back to back layups from Brett Roy (Newport, NY) with 6:35 to go in the half.  Delhi quickly regained control, outscoring Lyndon 25-7 over the final six minutes of the half to lead by 22 at the break.

The Hornets weren't able to get any closer than to within 18 points in the second half, as both teams substituted freely throughout the second half.

Mavenson Therneus posted a double double, leading the Broncos with 23 points and 14 rebounds.  Erhunosere Uwigibe added 17 points, and Quinnones chipped in with 15 points.  Isaiah Barnes and Jacob Beach also reached double figures wit 12 and 11 points respectively.  Barnes dished out a game high nine assists.  Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) was the only Hornet in double figures, as he finished with 16 points.

Delhi made 45 of 86 shots from the floor (52.3%), including eight of 21 (38.1%) from behind the three-point arc.  Lyndon made only 25 of 72 (34.7%) shots and only eight of 25 (22.9%) from distance.  The Broncos held a 56-40 rebounding advantage and forced 19 Hornet turnovers while committing 11 themselves.

The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday evening when they host SUNY Canton in their final regular season home game.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm in Stannard Gymnasium.
