Box Score Castine, ME - After a back and forth first quarter, Maine Maritime Academy gradually pulled away from Northern Vermont University-Lyndon and came away with a 72-47 victory in Friday evening's North Atlantic Conference women's basketball quarterfinal contest. The Mariners, top seeds in the NAC's East Division, advance to Saturday's semi-final to face Husson University, an 87-52 winner over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in Friday's second East quarterfinal. MMA improves to 20-3 on the season, while Lyndon concludes its campaign at 10-12.
Lauren Plissey led the Mariners with 14 points and eight rebounds. Erianna Moore posted a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and dished out a game high five assists.
Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) was Lyndon's top scorer, finishing with 14 points and grabbing a team high eight rebounds. Faith Poirier (Portsmouth, NH) also reached double figures with 10 points. Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) delivered a team best four assists.
Friday's game was the final one for Hornet seniors Crompton and Poirier. Both are expected to graduate this spring. The remainder of the roster is expected to return and form the core of the 2022-23 Hornets.
