Lyndonville, VT - Norwich University closed the first half on an 18-2 run and went on to a 94-69 victory over Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in Tuesday evening's non-conference men's basketball game. The Cadets ran their record to 5-1 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 2-4.
The visitors started fast, jumping out to a 10-4 advantage following a Jalen Olivero layup three minutes into the game. Norwich eventually pushed their lead to double figures at 27-11 following a Donovan Lewis rebound basket with 11:58 to go in the opening half.
Lyndon began to chip away at the Norwich lead, and when Mondwell Bukle (Pyeongtaek, South Korea) connected from three point range, the Norwich lead was down to two at 34-32 with 6:26 to go in the half. The Hornets went cold and got sloppy from that point, however, as Lyndon only converted one field goal in the remaining minutes of the half while committing five turnovers. That fueled the closing Cadet run, sending Norwich into intermission with a 52-34 advantage.
Lyndon was unable to get closer than within 16 points in the second half, as Norwich cruised to the victory.
Jalen Olivera topped three 20-point scorers for Norwich, finishing with a game high 26 points. Kohlby Murray and Donovan Lewis added 20 points apiece and Owen Liss grabbed six rebounds and handed out three assists.
Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) led Lyndon with 17 points and five assists. Bukle added 15 and Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) chipped in 14. Aiden Trapani (Deltona, FL) finished with nine points and a game high seven rebounds.
Norwich scored 33 points off of 25 Lyndon turnovers. The Cadets also had a commanding 78-28 advantage in points in the paint.
Lyndon will travel to the University of Vermont on Thursday evening for an exhibition game against the Division I Catamounts. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
