Barre, VT - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon trailed Norwich University by 23 points midway through the third quarter of Saturday's women's basketball game at the Barre Auditorium. Lyndon rallied to within three points late in the fourth quarter but was unable to come all the way back, as Norwich escaped with a 62-55 win on day tow of the Barre Granite Association College Classic. Norwich improved to 3-2 on the season, while Lyndon fell to 1-4.
Haley Brewster had a huge game to lead the Cadets. She finished with 29 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs. Erika Thomas also reached double figures with 13 points, and Maren McGinn and MacKenzie Moore pulled down 11 and 10 rebounds respectively.
Emori Davis (Fairfield, TX) paced Lyndon with 14 points. Riann Fortin (Derby, VT) added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Both teams struggled to find their shooting touch much of the night. Norwich converted 20 of 60 attempts (33.3%) and only 3 of 13 (23.1%) from beehind the three-point arc. Meanwhile, Lyndon only made 20 of 72 (27.8%) field goal attempts and only 7 of 25 (28.0%) from distance. Norwich owned a 47-34 rebounding advantage.
The Hornets are now off until after the Thanksgiving holiday. Their next contest will be on Tuesday, November 29th, when they host Middlebury College at 7:00 pm.
