Lyndonville, VT - Riann Fortin's (Derby, VT) goal off of a free kick in the 78th minute pulled Northern Vermont University-Lyndon even with Northern Vermont University-Johnson in Thursday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game. The game would stay that way, ending in a 1-1 tie. With that result, the Hornets are now 2-10-2 overall and 1-6-1 in NAC play. The Badgers are 1-6-5 on the season and 1-3-4 in conference.
Johnson struck first to take the early lead. In the ninth minute, Madelyn House forced a Lyndon turnover deep in Hornet territory, then fired a shot past Hornet goalkeeper Karly Cordwell (Milan, NH). Fortin had a pair of opportunities to tie the game, but the Badgers disrupted her near breakaway in the 15th minute. Then in the 25th minute, Fortin's shot hit the goalpost. Lyndon's Rachel Palladino (Mallius, NY) also had a great chance, but she was turned away by Johnson keeper Isabel Atkisson. As a result, the Badgers took the one-goal lead into halftime.
Both teams had trouble generating scoring opportunities after intermission. In the 78th minute, Johnson was called for a foul about 35 yards away from their goal. Fortin took the ensuing free kick and deposited it into the right side of the goal to tie the game at 1-1. That would be how the game ended.
Much of the game was played in the midfield, as Johnson outshot Lyndon only 9-7. Johnson held a 54%-56% possession advantage, but Lyndon generated fur corner kicks to two for Johnson.
