Box Score Cazenovia, NY - Northern Vermont University-Lyndon pulled away from Cazenovia College and cruised to a 68-38 North Atlantic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets picked up their first NAC win in three conference starts and improved to 6-3 overall on the season. Cazenovia falls to 1-13 on the season and remains winless in four NAC contests.
After Cazenovia's Bailey Bennett scored on the game's first posession, Lyndon's Kerigan Disords (Benson, VT) knocked down a three-pointer just over two minutes later to put the Hornets in front. Lyndon would never look back, as the Hornets gradually extended their advantage to 44-32 after three quarters, then put the game out of reach in the final period.
Riann Fortin (Derby, VT) had a strong all-around game for the Hornets, finsihing with 18 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and four assists. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) pulled down a game high 16 rebounds and converted five of six free throws. Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) finished with 13 points and a game high five assists and Danielle Robinson (Strafford, VT) scored a career high 14 points on a perfect six of six from the floor and two of two from the free throw line.
Mackenzie Bennett was Cazenovia's only double figure scorer. She finished with 14 points and added six rebounds.
The Hornets made 25 of 64 (39.1%) field goal attempts, including six of 27 (22.2%) from behind the three-point arc. Meanwhile the Wildcats only connected on 17 of 57 (29.8%) attempts and did not make a three-point goal. The Hornets forced 30 Wildcat turnovers while committing 18 themselves.
Lyndon's next contest is a NAC crossover against SUNY Delhi. Tip-off in Stannard Gymnasium is scheduled for Friday evening at 7:30 pm.
