Box Score 2 Standish, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball team traveled to St. Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon to compete in a non-conference tri-match against the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the hosts. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they fell 3-0 in both matches. For UMPI, the victory was their first in seven matches. St. Joseph's swept both matches, their first two wins of the season, and improved to 2-5. The Hornets remain winless in nine outings this season.
UMaine-Presque Isle 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22)
The Owls outlasted the Hornets in three very competitive sets. In each set UMPI was able to put together a significant run to emerge with the win.
Paige McArthur paced the owls with five kills while Kaya Amoroso had 18 assists and six digs and Alexis Engel recorded five service aces. Kiana Jones (Wilbraham, MA) led the Hornets with a career best 12 kills. Kiersene Austinville (Federalsburg, MD) added six kills and Charlotte Morris recorded 15 assists and nine digs.
St. Joseph's 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-12)
The host Monks maintained control throughout most of the match. St. Joseph's held a 30-7 advantage in kills and a 20-5 margin in service aces to keep the Hornets at bay.
Olivia Kent led St. Joseph's with eight kills. Amanda Darby recorded seven assists and Sam Holland finished with seven service aces. Austinville had three kills for Lyndon, as the Hornets weren't able to generate much from the attack. Morris had five assists and nine digs.
The Hornets are off until Monday, September 27thm when they travel to Anna Maria College for a 6:00 pm match.
