Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Carlisle's 31 point outburst leads Hornet men against Division I Dartmouth

Hanover, NH - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon men's basketball team traveled to Dartmouth College on Tuesday evening.  The Hornets came up on the short end of a 114-74 score against their NCAA Division I opponents.  The game was classified as an exhibition for NVU-Lyndon, while Dartmouth improved to 2-1 on the season.

The Big Green jumped out to a 17-2 lead at the onset before Lyndon settled in and played more competitively with their Ivy League opponents for the remainder of the first half.  The Hornets were able to narrow the lead to 12 following an Antonio Carlisle (St. Johnsbury, VT) three-pointer just under six minutes into the game.

The Dartmouth lead stayed in the teens for much of the middle portion of the half.  After a three from Lyndon's Jeremy Peralta (Hagerstown, MD) made the score 35-19, Dartmouth, the Big Green ran off 14 straight points, capped by a Cam Kristowiak layup, to take a 29-point advantage.  Lyndon chipped away, however, and after Carlisle converted a pair of free throws with five seconds to go in the half, the teams went to the locker room with Dartmouth holding a 57-35 lead.

The Hornets played competitively for the first few minutes of the second half before Dartmouth went on a 15-0 run to break the game open.

All 17 players who entered the game for Dartmouth scored, with Brandon Barry leading the way with 15 points on a perfect five of five from behind the three-point arc.  Aaryn Rai added 13 points and a game high eight rebounds.  Krystowiak finished with 12 points, while Izaiah Robinson and Garrison Wade added ten points apiece.

Carlisle had a huge game for Lyndon, finishing with 31 points on 10 of 15 shooting, including five of six from behind the arc.  Zach Falkenburg (Bridgeport, NY) was the only other Hornet to reach double figures, as he finished with 13 points.  Luke Fredsell (Whitesboro, NY) handed out a game high six assists.

Dartmouth was very efficient on offense both around the rim and from distance.  The Big Green made 46 of 76 shots (60.5%) from the floor, including 14 of 32 (43.8%) from behind the three-point arc.  The Hornets converted on 26 of 57 shots (45.6%), including 15 of 27 (55.6%) from distance.  The Big green also held a 37-28 rebounding advantage and forced 20 Hornet turnovers while committing only seven themselves.  Lyndon's 74 points scored were more than either of Dartmouth's prior opponents, Division I Boston College and Georgetown University, tallied against the Big Green.

The Hornets are off for two weeks for the Thanksgiving break.  They return to action on Tuesday, November 30th, when they host Eastern Nazarene College at 6:00 pm in Stannard Gymnasium.
