Hornet volleyball drops both ends of a NAC doubleheader to UMaine-Presque Isle

Lyndonville, VT - The University of Maine at Presque Isle swept both matches of a North Atlantic Conference volleyball doubleheader at Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sunday.  UMPI improves to 4-11 overall and 3-3 in conference with the wins.  The Hornets remain winless in 18 outings, including five conference matches

Match 1 - UMaine-Presque Isle 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-15)

The Owls were on control from the onset, as they jumped out to an early lead in all three sets and cruised to the sweep.  UMPI was led by Alexis Engel, who finished with seven kills and seven digs, and Hailey Kelly, who recorded 13 assists.  Kiana Jones (Wilbraham, MA) led Lyndon with six kills and Nyah Garner (Birmingham, AL) added eight assists and six digs.  Mary Weissauer (Milford, CT) also had six digs.

Match 2 - UMaine-Presque Isle 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-3, 25-17, 25-16)

UMPI held an early 5-3 lead in the opening set, then blitzed the Hornets with a 20-point run to go up a set.  The Hornets played much more competitively in the next two sets, but in both the Owls were able to pull away as the sets wore on.

Rachel Walker paced a balanced owl attack with six kills as Kelly picked up 17 assists.  Engel recorded a match high 12 digs.  Jones was again a bright spot for the Hornets, as she led the team with nine kills.  Garner posted 10 assists and nine digs.

The Hornets travel to Maine next weekend for a pair of conference matchups.  On Saturday, Lyndon will take on Husson University at 4:00 pm.  Then on Sunday they will play Maine Maritime Academy at 11:00 am.
