Box Score

Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team dropped a 62-51 North Atlantic Conference game to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday evening.  With the win Maine Maritime improves to 17-4 on the season and 9-1 in NAC play.  The loss drops the Hornets to 7-13 on the season and 3-7 in conference.

Shaylan Mosher (Newark, VT) converted a layup off of an Alissa Mitchell (Milton, NH) steal to give the Hornets an early 4-2 advantage.  That would prove to be Lyndon's only lead of the contest, as the Mariners used a quick 8-0 run to take the lead.  After Lyndon tied things at 10-10 following a Faith Poirier (Portsmouth, NH) layup, MMA's Eryn Doiron connected from three-point range to put the Mariners back in front.  The Mariners then extended their advantage to 16-10 after one quarter.

Maine Maritime pushed their advantage to 20-10 following a Lauren Plissey layup less than two minutes into the second quarter.  At that point Lyndon began to chip away.  When Rylee Moore (Livermore, ME) knocked down a jump shot, the Hornets were within one at 27-26 with 1:48 remaining before halftime.  The Mariners responded with a three from Morgan Boudreau and a Maureen Stanton layup to take a 32-26 lead into intermission.

Maine Maritime gradually extended their advantage in the third quarter, going in front 45-31 following a Claire Felix layup with 2:46 to go in the period.  Lyndon was able to narrow the gap to ten at 47-37 going into the final quarter.  The Hornets weren't able to get any closer than nine points in the final period, as the Mariners cruised to the victory.

Plissey was Maine Maritime's only double figure scorer, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Felix chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.  Mitchell led Lyndon with 12 points and six assists.  Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) was the game's only other double figure scorer, as she finished with ten points and foru steals.

The Hornets will host NAC leading Husson University on Sunday at 12:00 noon in Stannard Gymnasium.
