Presque Isle, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's soccer team traveled to the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday looking for their first win of the season.  The Hornets played the Owls to a scoreless standoff in the opening half, but fell behind in the second stanza and were unable to complete a comeback, falling 2-1.  Lyndon remains winless in seven starts overall, including two North Atlantic Conference contests.  UMaine-Presque Isle improves to 4-2-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in NAC play.

The opening half was tighlty contested and evenly played.  UMaine-Presque Isle outshot Lyndon 7-6 over the first 45 minutes, but neither team was able to break through on the socreboard.

The Owls broke through early in the second half, as Hannah Nadeau found the back of the net in the 53rd minute.  Nadeau scored again in the 67th minute, taking a pass from Marissa Reagle and converting to make it 2-0, Owls.  The Hornets then stepped up the pressure trying to get back in the game.  Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) was able to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 81st minute, but that was as close as the Lyndon would get despite outshooting UMPI 8-0 over the game's final 32 minutes.

For the game the Owls outshot the Hornets 19-14 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.  UMaine-Presque Isle goalkeeper Savannah Rodriguez made ten saves to earn the win while Hornet keeper Lauren Young (Concord, VT) made seven stops.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday when they travel to NVU-Johnson for a game that is both a North Atlantic Conference contest and part of the NVU President's Cup Challenge.  Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
