Box Score 2 Johnson, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon volleyball season kicked off with two pool matches in the Vermont Volleyball Classic at NVU-Johnson on Friday. In the opener, the Hornets fell in straight sets to the host Badgers. Castleton University then topped the Hornets in the nightcap, also by a 3-0 margin
NVU-Johnson 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-9)
The Hornets were unable to generate much offense against the host Badgers, failing to record a kill over the three sets. Nikola Knapova and Porsche Johnson posted six kills each and Mason Lores recorded 13 assists to pace the Badgers.
Castleton 3, NVU-Lyndon 0 (25-5, 25-5, 25-8)
Lyndon didn't fare much better against the Spartans. Emily Clancy (Durham, CT) recorded two kills and two service aces for the Hornets. Shannon Manchester led a balanced Castleton attack with three kills and Bre MacDuff tallied eight assists.
The Hornets conclude pool play on Saturday morning with a 9:00 am match against Norwich University. The tournament championship game wil be played at 3:00 pm, following a 1:00 pm consolation match.
