Hornet women lacrosse unable to recover from big early deficit at Becker

Leicester, MA - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team dug a big first half hole and never recovered, falling 20-3 at Becker College on Thursday evening.  With the win, the Hawks improve to 8-1 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 0-7.

Becker ran out to a 15-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.  The Hawks outshot the Hornets 46-5 and held a 49-31 advantage in ground balls.  Lyndon held a 12-11 edge in draw controls.  The Hornets committed 44 turnovers, compared to 27 for Becker.

Samantha D'Auteuil led the Becker attack with three goals and an assist.  13 different Hawks scored at least one goal in the game.  Kylian Kelly was credited a game high 11 ground balls and caused five Hornet turnovers.  Goalie Nikolle Storey picked up the win and made two saves.

Bayla Stewart (Newport, VT), Felisha Olmstead (St. Johnsbury, VT), and Tori McCormack (East Lyme, CT) each scored a second half goal for Lyndon.  Sgtewart recorded eight ground balls and five draw controls and Michaela Columbia (Orleans, VT) added six ground balls and five caused turnovers.  Hornet goalie Zoe Pierce-Olhson (Gales Ferry, CT) absorbed the loss and made 16 saves.

The Hornets will return to North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Maine at Farmington.  The game will be played at Norwich University's Sabine Field.  Start time is 3:30 pm.
