Hornet women unable to keep up with Maine Maritime

Castine, ME – The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's lacrosse team fell behind early and was unable to recover, falling to Maine Maritime Academy 18-1 on Sunday afternoon.  Lyndon falls to 0-4 on the season, while Maine Maritime wins for the first time in four starts.

The Mariners scored six goals in the first six minutes, led by two goals from Sydney Adams, and never looked back, taking a 13-0 lead into halftime.

Madison Savary led Maine Maritime with five goals and an assist, while Adams finished the afternoon with four goals and two assists and Olivia Le Blanc added four goals.  Christina Wilson and Madison Barry added two goals each.  Wilson contributed an assist and a game-high seven ground balls while Barry chipped in with a team-high three assists and Sierra James added the other goal for the Mariners.  Defensively, Wilson and Chloe Smedley led the Mariners with three caused turnovers each.  In net, Sydney Cole collected four saves and earned the win.

Felisha Olmstead (St. Johnsbury, VT) tallied the Hornets' lone goal.  Bayla Stewart (Newport, VT) led the team with four ground balls and Michaela Columbia (Orleans, VT) recorded a team-high four draw controls and two caused turnovers. In net, Zoe Pierce-Olhson (Gales Ferry, CT)  tallied seven saves.

Maine Maritime outshot Lyndon, 30-5.  The Mariners dominated ground balls 28-11 and held an 11-10 edge in draw controls.

The Hornets and Mariners will square off again in a North Atlantic Conference contest on April 20 at Lyndon.  The Hornets return to action next Saturday against Husson University.  The game time and location will be determined during the upcoming week.
