Castine, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team found itself in an early 9-2 hole at Maine Maritime Academy on Friday evening.  Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were never able to recover, falling 65-43 in the North Atlantic Conference contest.  Maine Maritime improves to 13-6 overall and 7-2 in the NAC with the win, while Lyndon falls to 11-9 on the season and 6-4 in conference.

Lyndon was able to rally somewhat, and Faith Poirier's (Portsmouth, NH) jumper with 12 seconds to go in the opening quarter cut the Mariner lead to 18-14 after one.  Lauren Young (Danville, VT) scored inside off of a feed from Alissa Mitchell (Milton, NH) for the first basket of the second quarter, but that was as close as they would come as three straight three-point goals, two from Morgan Boudreau and one from Melinda Ogden, extended the Maine Maritime lead to 11, and the Mariners never looked back.

Alayne Felix scored a game high 21 points and dished out five assists to lead Maine Maritime.  Ogden added 12 and Boudreau chipped in with 11.  Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) was Lyndon's only double figure scorer, finishing with 15 points.

The Hornets suffered from an ice cold shooting night, connecting on only 14 of 49 (28.6%) shots while Maine Maritime converted 21 of 45 (46.7%) attempts.  The Mariners also made eight of 19 from behind the three-point line, while the Hornets only knocked down five of 23 from distance.  The Mariners held a 40-27 rebounding advantage.

The Hornets complete their Maine swing with another NAC contest at Husson University on Saturday afternoon.  Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
