Hornet women fall to Maine Maritime

Castine, ME - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's basketball team was defeated by Maine Maritime Academy, 65-50, in Sunday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game.  The loss drops the Hornets to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in NAC play, while the Mariners improve to 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference.

Maine Maritime jumped out to a 13-2 advantage to start the game and Lyndon was never able to fully recover.  The Hornets cut the Mariner advantage to five late in the second quarter and again midway through the third quarter, but were not able to get any closer.  Maine Maritime was able to capitalize on 32 Lyndon turnovers, converting them into 27 points.  The Mariners also held a 12-2 advantage in second chance points.

Lauren Plissey went 9/11 from the floor in topping Maine Maritime with a game high 21 points.  Melinda Ogden and Maureen Stanton also reached double figures with 14 and ten points respectively.  Alisha Celley (Cabot, VT) led the way for Lyndon with 14 points and six rebounds.  Lea Crompton (Dunbarton, NH) added 13 points and three assists.

The Hornets return home on Tuesday evening when they will host Colby-Sawyer College in Stannard Gymnasium.  Tip-off for the non-conference matchup is set for 5:30 pm.
