Hornet women pick up their first NAC victory with a 11-8 win over Thomas

Waterville, ME – The Lyndon State College women's lacrosse team picked up its first North Atlantic Conference victory of the season, defeating Thomas College 11-8 on Saturday evening.  The Hornets near the .500 mark at 5-6 (1-5 NAC) while the Terriers fall to 1-11 (0-6 NAC).

The Terriers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first ten minutes of play on goals from Carina Iacozzi (Atkinson, NH) and Alexis Felch (Laconia, NH).  The Hornets offense ignited for five unanswered goals to take a 6-2 advantage behind three goals from Elizabeth Start (Randolph, VT) and a pair of markers by Mikayla Hodge (Bradford, VT).  Before the half, the Terriers outscored Lyndon 4-1, including two from Kimberly Banks (Swan's Island, ME) to cut the deficit to 7-6 at the break.

In the second half, the Hornets extended their lead to 9-7 at the midway point on tallies from Hodge and Danielle Kuiper (Moretown, VT).  Senior Madison Bentz (Algonquin, IL) made it 9-8 with 9:48 remaining in the contest. Lyndon held off a Thomas rally with a pair of goals from Hodge and Taylor Cavaliero (Somers, NY) to finish the scoring at 11-8.

Hodge led Lyndon with six goals, one assist, and six ground balls in the win while Start ended with three goals, two assists, and six ground balls.  Banks posted a team-high three goals, eight caused turnovers, and eight ground balls for Thomas.  Felch recorded two goals on eight shots.

Paige Daley (Pleasant Valley, NY) made ten saves in goal to pick up the win for Lyndon while Sydni Collier (Oakland, ME) stopped 15 shots and took the loss for the Terriers.

The Hornets will close out the 2018 campaign on Sunday afternoon when they host Colby-Sawyer College for Senior Day on Varsity Field.  The opening draw will be at 1:00 pm.  Thomas hosts Maine Maritime Academy on Monday.
